Mityana- Four senior officials from the Mityana District Service Commission and the district’s Vice Chairperson LCV have been arrested over allegations of abuse of office and nepotism.

The arrests were carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force in Mityana.
Those apprehended include Dr. Lwassampijja Fred, Chairperson of the Mityana District Service Commission; Mukiibi Hussein, Secretary to the Commission; Ssekibuule Andrew, a Commission member; and Anna Miriam Nassali, the Vice Chairperson LCV of Mityana District.
According to preliminary investigations, the officials are accused of orchestrating irregular recruitment processes aimed at favouring their close relatives for key district positions, in blatant disregard of merit and established public service procedures.
Dr. Lwassampijja Fred is alleged to have influenced the appointment of his daughter as Municipal Labour Officer in Mityana Municipality despite reportedly lacking the requisite qualifications for the post.
Anna Miriam Nassali is suspected of using her office to secure the appointment of her husband as an Education Assistant in charge of Guidance and Counselling, a position that ordinarily demands specific academic credentials and professional experience.
Investigators further allege that Ssekibuule Andrew played a central role in manipulating the recruitment process to benefit multiple family members. He is accused of influencing the appointment of his wife as Head Teacher of Kasalaga Primary School despite her failure to meet the minimum academic standards. Additionally, he allegedly facilitated the recruitment of his son as an Accountant at Mityana Municipality and his daughter as a Grade Three Teacher.
Authorities say none of the officials declared conflicts of interest to the Commission, contrary to the provisions of the Leadership Code Act and the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders.
The arrests underscore growing concerns over integrity and accountability in local government recruitment processes. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit says investigations are ongoing, with the aim of restoring transparency, fairness, and public trust in the district’s public service system.
