NAKAWA-Makerere University Business School (MUBS) on Friday treated its staff and administrators to a colorful end-of-year Party as the institution reflected on its 2025 achievements and outlined plans for the coming year.

The thanksgiving party, held at the MUBS Main Campus in Nakawa, brought together management, academic, and support staff from all MUBS campuses across the country, including Jinja, Mbarara, Arua, and Mbale.
Addressing staff at the event, the Chairperson of the MUBS Council, Ms. Olive Lumonya, urged members of staff to use the occasion to celebrate their individual and collective achievements, while also resolving any misunderstandings that may exist among them.
“Let us all contribute to making and maintaining MUBS a great institution for this country. As Council, we are aware of the challenges you face, and we shall handle them one by one in a phased manner that fits within our resource envelope,” Lumonya said.
She commended Prof. Moses Muhwezi, the Principal, and his management team for providing effective leadership that has enabled the institution to maintain high academic standards despite financial constraints.
“Academic staff are the reason students call this place home. The support staff are the unsung heroes of this institution, because without them nothing would run smoothly. Our staff are important and their lives matter, which is why the Council passed a resolution to support staff welfare, and this is already being implemented,” she added.
Ms. Lumonya called upon all key stakeholders to work together in the coming year towards positioning MUBS as a leading business institution globally.
In his remarks, Prof. Moses Muhwezi thanked staff for their continued support and encouraged them to maintain the same spirit in order to steer MUBS to greater heights.
“All our staff from Jinja, Mbarara, Arua, Mbale, and the Main Campus are here today as we celebrate our achievements in 2025. Our students have performed exceptionally well and are now ready to face the world and make it a better place,” Muhwezi said.
He noted that in line with government directives, MUBS has put in place facilities aimed at producing competence-based graduates.
“For the first time, through a public-private partnership, we are going to construct halls of residence—one accommodating 10,000 female students and another 10,000 male students. Construction will commence soon,” he revealed.
The Principal further disclosed plans to recruit more Professors of Practice—industry experts with business experience—to work alongside PhD holders in equipping students with practical business skills.
On the institution’s relationship with Makerere University, Prof. Muhwezi emphasized the strong collaboration between the two institutions.
“MUBS is an affiliate of Makerere University. While we are administratively and financially independent, academically we work under Makerere University, which admits students on our behalf and awards them Makerere University qualifications,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Principal, Associate Professor Rachel Mindra Katoroogo, who celebrated both her birthday and marriage anniversary on the same day, pledged her continued support to staff to ensure they perform their duties without hindrance.
The Party kicked off with a Thanksgiving mass and prayers from various religious denominations.
During the event, outstanding and retiring staff were recognized and awarded accolades by top management as a token of appreciation for their distinguished service to the institution.
