President Yoweri Museveni has declared Jan. 15 and 16 public holidays to allow citizens to participate in presidential and parliamentary elections.
The president issued the directive under the Public Holidays Act, according to a legal notice signed Jan. 8. The declaration applies to the entire country.
Museveni cited Section 2 (2) of the act as the basis for the decision, noting the holidays are intended to enable Ugandans to vote in the upcoming polls. The instrument was released under the public seal earlier this week.
