President Yoweri Museveni’s brother, Godfrey Aine Kaguta, alias Sodo, has survived a nasty accident in the ongoing National Rally Championship (NRC).

Sodo and Derrick Lubambula were driving on Saturday morning in Butapa village in Buyanga sub-county in Bugweri district.

Their Mitsubishi EVO9, which was registered as UAV 889Z, flipped over several times and crashed into a neighbor’s garden.

Sodo got out safely, but Lubambula was badly hurt and had to be rushed to a hospital that no one knew the name of.

Caroline Angelo, a traffic police officer for the Busoga East Region, confirmed the accident and told reporters that she was in charge of towing away the wreckage from the accident scene, but she wouldn’t say anything else about it.

Alfred Mutanda, the clerk of the course in the National Rally Championship, said that all participating teams were briefed to keep safe because of the muddy roads along the route.

Mutanda, on the other hand, says that they have been in charge of a successful rally championship so far, and neither the drivers nor the spectators have been in any serious accidents.

The championship, which was organized by the Central Motor Club in conjunction with Kaliro Sugar and other partners, has attracted 34 drivers from different parts of the country.

This event winds up the NRC calendar, with the national champion expected to be declared Sunday evening after finalizing all the routes.
