Kampala – Political activist David Musiri has officially announced his departure from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and declared allegiance to Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Front (DF).
The announcement comes just a day after Musiri revealed he was quitting NUP, a party he had belonged to for nearly five years. On Wednesday morning, he unveiled his official campaign poster bearing the DF symbol on his social media platforms.
Musiri’s decision has sparked mixed reactions among political observers and supporters. While some critics argue the move could jeopardize his promising political career, others have defended his right to join any political formation of his choice.
In his Tuesday statement announcing his exit, Musiri cited discontent with certain party members, accusing them of infringing on his freedom of association.
“I want to take this opportunity to inform members of the National Unity Platform that I have moved on. I thank the party leadership for the time we have been together and for what we achieved collectively,” said Musiri.
He added that his shift to the Democratic Front aligns with his right to associate with any political group or opposition-leaning independent in pursuit of what he called “a common goal to continue the struggle.”
“For a long time, I have endured blackmail, intimidation, and character assassination, but I want to confirm that this will not deter me from pursuing a bigger agenda,” he noted.
Musiri now joins a growing list of NUP members who have crossed over to Mpuuga’s newly-formed Democratic Front, which positions itself as an alternative voice within the opposition.
