Kampala– Nalongo Zawedde Lukwago Nalubwama, the wife for Ex -Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has prayed to authorities to ensure that her husband who is currently on remand in Luzira Prison, receives enough medical attention before it’s too late.

Nalongo Zawedde Lukwago and some members of the top leadership of the Uganda Law society.

While appearing at Radical New Bar (RNB) Media engagement held at Uganda Law society (ULS) headquarters in Kampala, Zawedde stated that her husband is spinal related and health complications which were worsened by his arrest and unlawful detention.

“Some time back he got a problem on his back as a result of arrest in Wandegeya, the spinal got damaged and we have been through that for some time. He has prescribed food, medicine, sleeping position during this recovery process.”

That when she recently met him at Kira Road Police, Lukwago told her  he suffered both psychological and physically while in detention.

“He is in much pain, we thank you for your prayers , we believe that he will get better if we have Justice, if he has been bailed out.”

Nalongo stated that they had suggested to have Lukwago remanded to a health facility like Mulago hospital under tight security, but since this didn’t happen, she has hope that he will receive all the required treatment as soon as he is granted bail.

“I appreciate the bar for being part of us It gives me great courage to see that the Law society and the whole Legal fraternity is still with us in this trying moment.”

Other stakeholders Speak out

Uganda Law Society renewed its demand to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, requesting for unconditional withdrawal of all charges against Erias Lukwago describing it as an attack to the bar.

“An attack on one advocate is an attack on the entire bar,” remarked Anthony Asiimwe, ULS Vice President

After the press briefing, the team marched to the office of the DPP, to raise their grievances, however , they found him out of office and a meeting was fixed for Monday next week.

Dr. Patricia Atim, Lecturer at Makerere University School, in her speech called upon all stakeholders to ensure that lay a brick in ensuring that the rule of law prevails in the country.

All the speakers, commended Nalongo and her entire family for the solidarity they have exhibited in this trying moment, thereby urging all other families to take a leaf from them.

Lukwago, one of the lawyers representing Col (Rtd) Kiiza Besigye and his aide Hajji Obeid Lutale in the Treason case before High Court, was arrested by Security personnel from his home in Wakaliga on Monday this week, he was detained for two days, later on Wednesday, he was taken to Kira Police and later to Makindye Magistrates Court.

At Makindye Magistrates Court, he was charged with Misprision of Treason and later, his lawyers led by Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona applied for bail basing on his Health Condition, but the State Prosecution requested for some time to respond and thus the matter was pushed to Monday next week.
