Four co-accused people in the Ndiga Clan murder case have asked Mwanga II Magistrates Court for their release, citing the recent arrest of prime suspect Tabula Lujja.

Lujja, who had evaded capture for six months, was apprehended for the murder of Ndiga Clan head Lwomwa Daniel Bbosa Kakeedo, who was gunned down near his home in Lungujja, Kampala, on February 24, 2024.

During a court hearing, State Attorney Caroline Mpumwire requested an adjournment to correct minor errors in the committal papers and incorporate new information.

However, the four co-accused – Harriet Nakiguli, Joseph Nakabale, Ezra Mayanja, and Milly Naluwenda – argued that their arrest was contingent upon Lujja’s capture and that they should be released as they have family responsibilities.

Lujja, who showed no remorse, admitted to orchestrating the murder, citing reasons including revenge for his father’s death, land disputes, and opposition to his claim to the Namulonge land. He also claimed that four of the five co-accused were innocent, except for his nephew, Noah Lujja.

Magistrate Adams Byarugaba ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant the co-accused’s release, as they face a capital offense triable only by the High Court.

The case has been adjourned to October 24, 2024, for committal to the High Court.

Prosecution alleges that on 25th day of February 2024 at Kikandwa- Lungujja village in Rubaga Division in Kampala District, the accused persons and others still at large with malice aforethought unlawfully caused the death of Eng Daniel Kakeedo Bbosa.
