KAMPALA — Uganda’s communications regulator has released a new report comparing the prices of mobile and fixed internet bundles across the country.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) says its latest price schedule aims to bring more transparency to the telecommunications sector and empower consumers.

The June edition of the report focuses on data bundles with daily, weekly, monthly, and non-expiry validity, with a particular emphasis on packages valid for one month or less. Unlimited-speed fixed internet options are also included.

The UCC states that these categories represent the most frequently purchased internet bundles by Ugandans.

“As part of our mandate to promote and protect the interests of consumers, the Uganda Communications Commission has published this comparative mobile and fixed price schedule,” said Nyombi Thembo, the UCC’s Executive Director. He added that it would “support transparency and improve consumer awareness.”

The publication will be updated periodically. Its goal is to help consumers make informed decisions based on value, affordability, and their usage needs.

The UCC hopes the report will also encourage service providers to offer more competitive and consumer-friendly pricing.

It noted that the comparative analysis would “demystify pricing structures,” allowing consumers to weigh options from different providers. This transparency, the commission believes, should stimulate healthy competition and drive innovation in pricing models.

Mr. Thembo reiterated that the commission would “closely monitor price trends in the market and will update these comparisons periodically to ensure that consumers are kept informed.”

The report is part of the UCC’s wider strategy to foster a transparent and competitive communications environment in Uganda. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting users’ rights while working to ensure equitable access to quality internet services nationwide.

The full comparative price schedule is available on the UCC website. It includes detailed breakdowns by provider, bundle size, price, and validity period.
