KAMPALA —The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in partnership with Centenary Bank and Visa Card has unveiled a loyalty programme where members using the Fund’s smart card can access discounts on selected goods and services.

The NSSF Smart Card is a three-in-one social security card that embeds the Fund’s functionality and that of the bank.

Speaking at the unveiling in Kampala on Wednesday, 14 December 2022, NSSF acting Managing Director Patrick Ayota said the Loyalty Programme is intended to help the beneficiaries acquire desirable assets at a subsidised rate.

“Today, I am pleased to officially unveil the NSSF Smart Card Loyalty Programme, one of the three amazing features of the Smart Card. It is an initiative where NSSF members have access to unlimited discounts on selected goods and services whilst transacting,” he said.

“We have about 8,000 people that have shown interest in the smart card with active usage standing at 60.7% to date. The main driver of these enrolments has been the availability of discounted offers on selected products and services,” he added.

Mr Ayota said a 2019 post-retirement survey done by NSSF showed that 60% of the benefits paid out to members had been allocated to house improvement/construction and land.

“We, therefore, wanted to create more value for members by giving them an opportunity to acquire desirable assets at a subsidised rate before they retired so that they can invest their retirement savings in more profitable ventures,” he added.

To operationalise this, Mr Ayota said NSSF has partnered with over 8 merchants from real estate, construction, technology and hospitality industries across the country.

“These were deliberately selected to suit the needs of our members,” he said.

He explained that a member only has to present a valid NSSF Smart Card to the participating merchants under this program at any of their selling locations to purchase discounted products or services.

Members can join the Loyalty program by applying for the NSSF Smart card today via http://nssfug.org/smartcard or by walking to any of the NSSF or Centenary bank branches.

“To join as a merchant, simply approach our marketing office to discuss the nature of the discounts you would like to provide. The current participating merchants are listed on our website and various media channels,” Ayota.
