Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and his new wife Suzan Makula have been charged with three counts of behaving contrary to the Marriage Act.
Entebbe Grade One Magistrate Stella Okwang Pacular summoned the couple for plea taking on January 21, 2022.
The first count is contracting marriage by customary law when already married under the Marriage Act Cap 251 contrary to Section 50 of the Marriage Act, Cap 251.
According to the charge sheet, Pastor Bujjingo, on December 7, 2021, at Kawuku, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, having contracted marriage under the Marriage Act Cap 251 with Teddy Naluswa Bujjingo and during the continuance of that marriage, did contract another marriage in accordance with the Customary Law with Suzan Makula Nantaba.
On the second charge, Makula is charged with entering a marriage with a person previously married, contrary to Section 42 of the Marriage Act, Cap 251.
The charge states that on December 7, 2021, at Kawuku, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, Makula, being unmarried, went through the ceremony of marriage with Pastor Bujjingo a person she knew to be married to Teddy Naluswa Bujjingo.
The third count is Bigamy Contrary to Section 153 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 120.
