MBALE – Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi on Wednesday [6 September] sought to pump up his supporters in Mbale District by inviting them to join his “fight against dictatorship in the country”.

The National Unity Platform President said his visit to Mbale was to officially open up the party office but also asked the people to join him in the campaign aimed at seeing President Museveni, whom he described as a dictator, out of power.

Bobi Wine was heroically welcomed with praises and showered with gifts. Moments before his address, the people christened Bobi with, “Our President”.

It was a festive atmosphere as thousands of his supporters blew vuvuzelas, and whistles and hooted vehicles and motorcycles in Mbale City.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd at Busamaga rugby playgrounds in Busamaga in Mbale City, Mr Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine explained his mission and invited the people of the Bugisu sub-region and all Ugandans to embrace it.

My Kyagulanyi began his trail through Butaleja district after his was tipped about security deployment along Mbale-Tororo road entering Mbale City through Naboa town council in Budaka district; the NUP leader braved the long distances which have become part and parcel of his processions.

In Mbale he was welcomed as far as Kamonkoli town council in Budaka district, after noticing that the number of conveners could not allow his vehicle to move, Mr Kyagulanyi went out of his vehicle and started jogging with his supporters to Nylon a Mbale City suburb [ for a distance of about 6Km] before getting back to his official vehicle.

He officially opened the offices at Pallisa road in Mbale City attended by many off his supporters most of whom who chose to stand at roof tops, on buildings before being led by a mammoth crowd through the town along Republic Street to Busamaga rugby play grounds.

Along the streets, many shopkeepers abandoned their businesses and went up their buildings to just have a glimpse of Bobi Wine as he trailed along Republic Street with a mammoth crowd being entertained by Kadodi drums [a traditional dance here]and a common thing when political campaigns start.

The NUP president 6 September left the entire Bugisu sub-region yearning for more of him after giving a heart-rending speech that prompted enchantments from the crowd majority of whom were youths.

His magical speech compelled the people of Bugisu to issue an endorsement bid for him. “We, the people of Bugisu hereby declare our unwavering support for Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine. And we hand over to you a spear as a traditional way of conquering and a traditional skin as a sign of leadership come 2026,” the MC announced.

Mr Kyagulanyi promised to prioritise infrastructure and social services in Bugisu sub-region once elected adding that Mbale City needs better road network.

The musician-turned-politician said that most of the roads in the Sub-region that heavily earns from agriculture and tourism are in an appalling state and that these make transportation of agricultural produce hard.

Mr Kyagulanyi put emphasis on equal access to Education and health service care for all, inclusive economic development, reviving the economy of the country, inclusive development, people centered governance, environmental protection, international relations and national security.

He amused the people of Mbale when he said “In the past Bugisu Cooperative Union belonged to all people in Bugisu and Uganda that is why the union built schools in Teso, Bukedi etc but today it belongs to one person,”.

Mr Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who is the current beacon of hope for change-yearning Ugandans is expected to end the 37-year rule of Gen. Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni who has been in power since 1986.
