PLE 2020: UNEB withholds results of 2, 220 candidates over malpractice as Bundibugyo, Masaka and Nakasongola flagged over cheating

KAMPALA — The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the results of the 2020 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at State House Entebbe.

The results show that there has been an overall improvement in English and Social Studies with the overall pass level of Science improved but there was a sharp decline in distinctions in the subject.
Mathematics had a slight decline.

UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo says the performance has slightly improved.

Mr. Dan Odongo said results of 2,220 candidates have been withheld pending investigations.

Odongo says the number is much higher than the 1512 withheld in 2019 PLE.

“In accordance with Section 5 (2) (b) of the UNEB Act No 1 of 2021 the Board will withhold results of 2,220 candidates pending completion of investigations”. – says Dan Odongo, Executive Director UNEB.

“The largest numbers of withheld results are from districts in the Rwenzori region, especially in the districts of Bundibugyo and Kasese. Schools whose results are withheld will be notified through their District Inspectors of Schools.” – Odongo added.

He said that results of candidates have been withheld over suspected malpractices, pending investigations.

He said that all candidates whose results have been withheld will be accorded a fair hearing by the Board’s Examination security Committee.

Janet Museveni, Education Minister says that it is sad to know that teachers and parents are leading students into examination Mal-practices.

She added that some students failed because led them into Malpractice and found different questions in the exams.
