The theme of the meeting is: Transformative Solutions by Women Leaders to today’s Interlinked Crises.

According to the organisers, the UN General Assembly Platform of Women Leaders is a special initiative that invites all current women Heads of State and Leaders of Government business to discuss priority issues on the international community’s agenda.

Speaking before departure for New York, Ms. Nabbanja in company of other four key participants said her invitation and participation is a vote of confidence in Uganda’s positive strides in women empowerment.

“I thank the UN for this invitation and President Yoweri Museveni for consistently championing the empowerment and emancipation of women through which I, and many other female leaders in the country have had the opportunity to grow and make a contribution to our country”

“Without President Museveni and NRM Government’s deliberate decision to ensure women participation in political, economic and social transformation initiatives, we would never be where we are today, ” she added.

Nabbanja added :” I will use this opportunity to showcase Uganda’s progressive gender empowerment agenda and seek opportunities for partnership to further support our development and transformation journey.”

While in New York, the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with partners, UN bodies, business people and potential investors.

The Prime Minister said that while she has not been keen on undertaking foreign travels, the opportunity to share Uganda’s progressive gender empowerment journey with the rest of the world is one she is passionate about.

“I have turned down several invitations to travel abroad and instead chosen to focus of service delivery issues in the country, but on this occasion, this UN Women invitation is one that puts Uganda on the map to share our experiences with the rest of the world, and have therefore accepted it.”

This is the second foreign trip undertaken by the Prime Minister she was appointed in June 2021.
