PM Nabbanja, Nabakooba present as Misigi Parish celebrates 25 years

Uganda Martyrs Misigi Parish in Mityana District marked a significant milestone in its history as it celebrated its Silver Jubilee on February 25. The ceremony, filled with pomp and splendor, drew the presence of distinguished government officials, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba.

The jubilant event commenced with a mass led by Rev Fr Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, the Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

Bishop Zziwa seized the opportunity to express his gratitude to spiritual leaders and churchgoers who had dedicated themselves to the establishment of the Misigi Parish.

He highlighted the remarkable achievements reached over the past 25 years, which include the establishment of Catholic-founded schools.

Bishop Zziwa encouraged the faithful to support these educational institutions by enrolling their children in them. During his sermon,

Bishop Zziwa emphasized the importance of the Lenten season as an occasion for believers to reflect on their lives and rectify the mistakes they have made. He urged them to refrain from engaging in sinful activities that led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, the Bishop called upon the congregation to devote their effort and resources to develop the local schools associated with the Parish.

He expressed astonishment at the sight of students from other areas attending these schools, underscoring the need to transform the Misigi Parish into a deserving entity after 25 years of existence. In line with ensuring financial sustainability for the church, the Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese initiated several income-generating projects, which have been extended to all parishes under its jurisdiction.

These projects, such as dairy farming, coffee cultivation, and poultry farming, have been put in place to facilitate the smooth running of church activities.

The presence of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Misigi Parish is a testament to the significance of this milestone in the eyes of the government.

It demonstrates the government’s support for religious institutions and their role in the development of the community. Their attendance also reinforces the bond between the government and the church, symbolizing a shared commitment to progress and harmony.

Prime Minister Nabbanja took the opportunity to urge locals to fully embrace government programs, especially the Parish Development Model.

This model, which was introduced to transform the lives of beneficiaries at the local level, aims to bridge the poverty gap and provide people with the security and opportunity to develop themselves.

Nabbanja emphasized the importance of joining enterprise groups and benefiting from the government program. She assured the community that more funds are on the way, ensuring that each individual can enjoy the fruits of the government’s efforts.

By encouraging active participation in the program, the Prime Minister sought to instill hope and motivation among the locals, reminding them that the government is dedicated to their welfare.

Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba echoed the sentiments expressed by the Prime Minister. She urged the residents of Mityana District to fully embrace the developmental programs that have been put in place to support underprivileged households.

Nabakooba highlighted the fact that President Museveni has introduced various socio-economic programs, including the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, to alleviate poverty in the country.

Nabakooba also emphasized the President’s efforts in seeking markets for local agricultural produce from different countries. By allowing investors to come in and provide a market for these goods, the President has created opportunities for the community to transform their lives.

The Lands Minister urged the community to seize this opportunity and make the most of it, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the resources available to them.
