KAMPALA, Uganda — The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Uganda Police Force has established a center to monitor political and electoral offenses ahead of the 2026 general elections.
CID Director Tom Magambo gave Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba a tour of the new center, located at the directorate’s headquarters in Kibuli. The tour took place during a meeting with all divisional and district CID officers aimed at preparing for the upcoming polls.
“We have a bigger part of Ugandans who are ready to cast their votes and peacefully continue building our country,” Magambo said. “But there are a few elements out there who think they can use this opportunity to disorganize our elections.”
Magambo warned against disrupting the elections, saying the CID’s system would ensure the country’s safety under the IGP’s guidance.
Byakagaba praised the CID’s progress and expressed confidence that the force, working with other security agencies, would deliver a peaceful election.
“We are going to do all it takes to make sure that the election exercise is carried out in a peaceful environment, without any hindrance by those who think they can disorganize the exercise,” Byakagaba said.
The IGP also noted that the Police Force has zoned the country into nine areas for election purposes and has an inter-agency security master plan in place. He added that 10,000 new police constables are already in training.
