President Museveni to grace UNABCEC’s 30th Anniversary

KAMPALA – General Edward Katumba Wamala , the Minister for Works and Transport has revealed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will officiate the 30 years celebrations of Uganda National Association of the Building and Civil Engineering Contractors (UNABCEC).

General Katumba Wamala and other stakeholders at the launch of the launch of Uganda construction infrastructure and infrastructure forum 2023 at Media Center Kampala on Thursday.

At the launch of Uganda construction infrastructure and infrastructure forum 2023, at media Center Kampala, Minister Katumba that they decided to invite the President considering his love for infrastructure development.

“Come and participate in the activities organized to celebrate UNABEC 30 years celebrations to have answers to questions like; why our roads are too small , are we following the set standards and why are our roads considered to the most expensive ones.”

The Minister commended Civil Engineers for their tremendous contribution towards the country’s development (through construction of buildings and roads) on top impacting on many people’s lives.

“We feel so bad that as a country we are always talking about numbers of accident victims , its high time we fought these numbers. All of us must participate , whether you’re a pedestrian, whether you ride a boda boda to work or any other form of transport.”

Katumba further assured Ugandans that very soon the problem of poor roads is going to be history because of various plans the government has embarked on to ensure that the country’s road network is improved upon.

JamesOne Olonya , UNABEC President noted the first construction and infrastructure forum and Exhbition which will run Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th December 2023 at Kololo Independence under a theme “Celebrating UNABCEC’s 30 years of shaping Uganda’s construction industry.”

“The forum and Exhibition will focus on all aspects of the construction industry including industry standards and regulation, engineering , materials , technology and innovation , equipment , Contract financing , management solutions , architecture , real estate among others.”

The forum is expected to attract over 500 participants with President Museveni as a Chief Guest , Prof PLO Lumumba a notable Pan Africanist who has delivered several speeches on African solutions as the key note speaker.

The second event will be the Inaugural Contractors’ Run 2023 under a theme “Running for Road Accident Victims” with a target of mobilizing over 10,000 runners who will contribute proceeds which will be used to purchase hospital beds and mattresses in selected Referral hospitals.

Other activities include; Blood donation drive from 14th to 16th December 2023 with aim of providing more blood for accident victims and The Contractor Magazine (Souvenir Edition) , a special issue that will be reflecting UNABCEC’s journey, celebrating significant milestones, showcasing outstanding projects and providing insights into future of the industry.

What is UNABCEC?
The Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors is an umbrella Organization representing over 422 genuine contractors and entities involved in Uganda’s construction contracting sector. It has been in existence since 1993.
