Quadball players urged to prioritize vocational skills

Wakiso – Elsa Quadball club players have been asked to not only focus on sports but should also find means of engaging in other economic activities and developing their talents so as to earn a living.

Being that its one of the new games in Uganda, it is not yet profitable to the players yet they have to incur daily expenses which prompted their friends from Canada to donate the a sewing machine for the start.

While handing over a sewing machine to Elsa Quadball club coach, Ddumba Lawrence the director Elsa Africa who also double as team manager elsa Quadball club advised the beneficiaries to use the donation properly so that it can have a positive impact in their lives.

“Having realized that we have talented players, we decided to contact our friends in Canada who supported us with this Machine. We have hope that if all goes on well, we shall be getting more support to change the lives of our players.”

Dumba added that this year, ELSA missed to participate in World cup because they didn’t receive donation from the donors aa expected , However he promised that this year they have started up a saving scheme which will enable them to finance their travel and upkeep.

On receiving the donation, Rosemary Nalunga, the team captain for Bunamwaya Quadball team thanked the donors for having thought about them and promised to ensure that the sewing machine is put into good use.

“Secondly , this game being a gender balanced sport, it has helped us more to get empowered as youths, teenage girls to overcome several challenges that used to affect us before joining Quadball.” She added

About Quadball

Quadball is a game which started in 2005 at Middlebury College in United States of America (USA) and it has grown to over 600 teams in close to 40 countries

The game is a mixed gender contact sport with. unique mix of elements from Rugby , dodgeball and tag. A quadball team is made up of seven athletes who play with brooms between their legs at all times.

It had been introduced in Uganda when it was called quidditch , unfortunately it was not taken seriously and collapsed thus forcing some concerned stakeholders to revive it.
