Rotarians hold virtual cancer run

During the Rotary Cancer Run 2020, participants took a moment to reflect on the passing on of a great and inspirational icon, Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, who died of cancer on Friday.

MUYENGA — Owing to coronavirus disruptions, the 2021 Rotary Cancer run was held virtually, the first of its kind since inception.

Several Ugandans across the world took part in the ‘scientific’ run while following proceedings on social media.

At 7:45 am on Sunday August 30, Rotary District Governor, Rosetti Nabbumba, flagged off invited participants at the official starting point in Muyenga.

The run was successful held amid strict observation of coronavirus guidelines set out by Ugandan authorities.

The Rotary Governor said that 2020 campaign involved Food and Nutrition aimed at promoting healthy living, adding that the run came as a challenge due to COVID-19.

She appealed to Ugandans to continue paying strict attention to the coronavirus guidelines.

“I appeal to people to observe all guidelines put by the ministry of health to avoid the contraction of the deadly virus,” Nabbumba said.

Fabian Kasi, said that the run is to support and build a bunker at Nsambya hospital.

Mr. Kasi whose bank set aside UGX100 million as contribution to this agenda retaliated the Bank’s commitment to ending cancer and supporting community causes.

Our support to the Rotary Cancer Run and other programs has been on for 9 years now, and I believe through collaborative efforts, we can impact the lives of those in the communities where we operate as individuals and businesses,” Mr. Kasi said.

On her side, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who was the guest of honour commended Rotarians for the brave idea and promised that her institutions would continue to lend a hand where possible.

Parliament of Uganda is a one of the lead partners of Rotary Cancer Run initiative.
