Serere County Member of Parliament Bishop Patrick Okabe and his wife have died in a motor accident, Parliament has said.

Bishop Okabe was involved in a head-on collision with a Kenya truck registration number KCX 071K at Naboa along Mbale-Tirinyi road on Monday morning while driving with his wife to Kampala in his vehicle registration number UBK 995F.

“Parliament has learnt with shock about the death of Serere County Member of Parliament, Hon. Patrick Okabe and his wife, which occurred earlier this morning at Naboa on Mbale-Tirinyi road,” a parliamentary statement indicated.

“Our condolences to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Members of Parliament, the family of the late, the people of Serere and the country at large. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon,” it added.

According to available data, Mr. Okabe died on spot, while his wife died moments later while in hospital in Mbale City today, December 19, 2022.

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among said: “It is with great pain that I announce the passing on of our colleague , brother and member of @Parliament_Ug for Serere County Hon. Patrick Okabe and his wife in a road accident this morning. I ask us all to stand with the family during this difficult moment! May his soul.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa described Okabe as a true voice of reason, an author, a passionate believer in the Almighty and Peace Maker.
