She Maroons battled to a 1–all draw against Kawempe Muslim Ladies in an entertaining FUFA Women Super League encounter played at Luzira prison playground on Saturday.
Kawempe Muslim began the match with high intensity and controlled the early exchanges, but the She Maroons defence remained compact and well organised. In the 13th minute, the hosts took the lead through Kauthara Naluyima, who fired in a powerful long-range strike after connecting perfectly with a brilliant cross from Lillian Mutuuzo.
Mutuuzo had made an impressive run down the right wing, beating several defenders before delivering the assist.
Kawempe Muslim continued searching for an equaliser and in the 22nd minute they earned a free kick at the edge of the box, but striker Kisakye sent the effort over the bar. She Maroons also created promising opportunities.
In the 28th minute, a long free kick from Immaculate Kizza found Lillian Kasubu unmarked in the box, but her header was brilliantly saved by Kawempe goalkeeper Namwanje. The rebound fell to Racheal Nassimbwa, whose follow-up shot sailed over the bar.
She Maroons kept pressing forward and in the 35th minute Kasubu attempted a long-range effort from the centre of the pitch, but the goalkeeper gathered comfortably. Kawempe also had a chance in the 38th minute, though their free kick was easily handled by She Maroons goalkeeper Proscovia Adong, who produced several important saves during the match.
She Maroons went into the break with a 1–0 advantage.
The second half saw Kawempe Muslim return with renewed energy and determination. They circulated the ball well and created several chances, but the She Maroons defence remained disciplined. Kawempe captain Agnes Nabukenya dictated play in midfield and created openings, although the forwards struggled to find a clear finish.
As the pressure grew, She Maroons made changes with Judith Sanyu replacing Racheal Nassimbwa, while Fiona Atono came on for Lillian Mutuuzo.
In the 73rd minute, Kawempe Muslim also made key substitutions as Nakato Aminah and Namutebi Krusum were replaced by Shadia and Zainah respectively. The changes lifted Kawempe’s intensity as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 78th minute when Latifah Nakasi scored from close range following a moment of poor communication in the She Maroons defence to level the match at 1–1.
In stoppage time, Kawempe had one final opportunity when Nakasi won a free kick at the edge of the box, but her effort sailed over the bar.
The referee then brought the contest to an end with the score level at 1–1.
Despite conceding late on, She Maroons showed resilience, discipline and determination against a strong Kawempe Muslim side
