JOHANNESBURG — SuperSport has announced it will broadcast all 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 live to English and Portuguese-speaking countries across Africa.
The broadcaster, a subsidiary of MultiChoice Group, said the tournament will be available to DStv subscribers ranging from the Access package to Premium. The expanded tournament, featuring 48 nations for the first time, is scheduled to begin June 11 in Mexico City and conclude July 19 in New Jersey.
Actor Idris Elba partnered with DStv to announce that the full slate of matches will be available on both DStv and GOtv.
Africa is set to send its largest contingent in history to the tournament, with 10 countries qualifying through the Confederation of African Football. The nations representing the continent are Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ director for content and sports in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, said the company is proud to bring the global showpiece to African viewers.
This is the most anticipated World Cup from an African perspective since 2010, Ramovha said. He added that the broadcast will include special features tailored to local African languages and cultures.
SuperSport plans to supplement the live matches with new magazine shows and analysis from football experts. The 2026 edition will be the longest-running World Cup in the event’s history due to the increase from 32 to 48 teams.
The broadcast will be available in several countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Rwanda.
