KALAKI —Ahead of the countrywide schools opening program, Vice President Jessica Alupo has called upon all parents to take their children school without discrimination.
She said in the new year 2023, citizens should continuously support the various programs of government.
The Vice President was speaking this afternoon at a Thanksgiving Mass of the newly consecrated Bishop Dominic Eibu in Kalaki, where she delivered a brand new car to the Prelate from President Museveni to help him in his pastoral duties in the diocese and across the country.
“Schools are soon opening therefore let’s take all our children to school including those with disability.”
Alupo used the occasion to further encourage religious leaders to guide the faithfuls on selection of profitable enterprises in the sectors of commercial agriculture, industries; services and ICT.
Alupo assured the congregation that there would be sustainable peace and security in the whole Country and construction of the necessary social and economic infrastructure, as a way of facilitating and attracting local and foreign investments to create jobs and incomes for Ugandans.
The Vice President delivered the Toyota land cruiser to Bishop Eibu at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Kamidakan, in Another village in Kalaki district.
Bishop Eibu was last week consecrated and enthroned as the third Bishop of Kotido Diocese; taking over from Rt. Rev. Giussepe Filippi-upon reaching the canonical age limit.
He was consecrated by His Grace Emmanuel Obbo, the Archbishop of Tororo diocese as Principal Consecrator assisted by Rt. Rev. Giussepe at St. Daniel Comboni, in Kotido district.
Alupo reminded the congregation that during the bishop’s consecration last week, President Museveni had promised to deliver a brand new car, something that had now been fulfilled.
She thanked the family of the Bishop for raising him. “From the time a child goes to primary, secondary, Seminary to becoming a priest, the family has a very big stake in continuing to support and guide him. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did,” the vice President said to the applause of the congregation.
She also thanked the people of Kalaki district for the tiring support they gave to the family but especially to Bishop himself.
“You are the ones who have made the bishop and you should remain proud of him. Continue supporting the bishop and making him your own,” Alupo advised.
She added that as government, they commit to deliver to the people of Uganda saying that all the programs which have been lined up in the National Development Plan III and the NRM manifesto concerning roads, railway, boreholes and called upon Ugandans to support government to ensure service delivery.
She commended the Church for maintaining a cordial relationship and partnership with the NRM government, in working towards the socio-economic transformation of the Ugandan society, saying the Church has exploited the private sector-friendly policies of the NRM Government to extend social services to the public. This, she said, is manifested in increased faith-based institutions ability to construct a number of schools and hospitals across the country.
This, the Vice President added, is proof of their concern for the material and physical well-being of their followers.
Bishop Eibu hailed President Museveni for loving Christians.
He said he will use the vehicle to preach the gospel as well as mobilize Christians to embrace government programs like the Parish Development Model.
“As christians, we are extremely happy to receive the wonderful message from the President of the Republic of Uganda. We have received this vehicle from the bottom of our hearts and we are very joyous to receive it. We thank Her Excellency the vice Lresident who has delivered this message. This vehicle as it is, is very strong, we shall use it to extend the kingdom of God because my work is to shepherd the sheep. I will be moving around the diocese and even beyond. I believe we shall use it purposefully to extend the kingdom of God,” said the bishop at the sidelines of the handover ceremony.
The prelate urged parents to allow their children to join religious studies saying God is waiting for them.
The event was attended by ministers, members of Parliament, RDCs, politicians and the clergy.
