MATUGGA — The Office of the Resident State Attorney in Matugga has sanctioned powerful charges against two Chinese nationals Tong and SongBao who now face up to 20 years in jail for torturing a local worker after a video showing them clobbering a man went viral on social media.

Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire said the two Chinese nationals clobbered Male Muhammad, a driver on Saturday October 1.

“The office of the Resident State Attorney in Matuga has today sanctioned allegations of grievous harm against two Chinese Nationals Tong and Song chengBao for allegedly assaulting one of their workers Male Muhammad,” Mr. Oweyesigyire said on Thursday.

He said that on 1/10/2022 while Muhammad, a driver by profession was at his place of work in Migo Matugga at a factory that makes Gumboots, his boss Tong told him to Join off loaders, a directive he declined, forcing the Chinese nationals to unleash Kungfu and ironfists on him.

Mr. Muhamada alleges that his two bosses started assaulting him for rejecting their orders and he consequently reported the matter to Matuga Police station where it was investigated and the bosses arrested.

Police had initially released the two men on bond as investigators probed the matter.

“Today, the file has been sanctioned against the suspects on allegations of Grievous Harm.
They will consequently be re-arrested and presented before the Grade 1 Magistrate Matuga as soon as possible,” Oweyesigyire said

He emphasized that the rights of workers should at all-time be protected by their employers.

“We appeal to all workers to use the necessary offices like the Police and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development to report abusers of their rights for proper action”, he added.
