KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company is set to launch a price subsidy program for clean energy technologies on December 5, 2024, in Kiboga district.
According to Roy Baguma Nyamutale, Managing Director of the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company, the program aims to address the affordability barrier associated with the upfront cost of acquiring clean energy technologies by households and enterprises.

Nyamutale said, “We are committed to ensuring that every Ugandan can access clean, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.”
The program will provide price discounts for eligible clean energy technologies. “Ugandans are set to benefit from price discounts for eligible clean energy technologies, with discounts of up to 60% for solar lanterns, 50% for solar lighting, 30-50% for clean cooking solutions, and 60% for energy equipment,” Nyamutale explained.
The program is expected to enhance access to electricity, particularly in rural and remote areas of Uganda. Nyamutale noted that the program will partner with over 65 Energy Service Companies to deliver the Price Subsidy Program.
To purchase the discounted products, households will only need to present a national identification card and cover the discounted price. Nyamutale clarified that households will be able to take their products home immediately.
Nyamutale urged every Ugandan to take advantage of the program. “We urge every Ugandan to embrace the program and access clean, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy,” he said.
