KAMPALA, Uganda — The umbrella body for Uganda’s private tourism sector has officially changed its name from the Confederation of Uganda Tourism Associations to the Uganda Tourism Association (UTA), a move officials say is designed to unify and strengthen the industry’s voice.
The name change was made official on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with a certificate from the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, culminating a lengthy legal process. The transition aims to provide a clearer and simpler identity for engaging with members, government agencies, and international partners.
Isa Kato, the association’s vice president, said the rebrand is a crucial step for the sector. “This is not just a change in name; it’s a renewed commitment to professionalism, accountability, and collaboration as we work to reposition the industry for growth,” he said. “The new name is more modern and directly reflects our role as the unifying voice for Uganda’s tourism sector.”
The UTA, which represents more than 2,500 tourism enterprises, has been actively working to drive advocacy and sustainable growth. Mrs. Yogi Biriggwa, the association’s president, has already engaged in high-level discussions with government leaders to address key challenges like taxation and infrastructure development.
The formalization of the association’s identity is expected to enhance its ability to advocate for policies and practices that will help the sector reach its full potential and meet ambitious national development goals. The UTA will continue its mission to unify diverse stakeholders and promote Uganda as a premier travel destination, known for its abundant wildlife and rich cultural heritage.
