KAMPALA, Uganda — The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Oryem Henry Okello, met with Algerian Ambassador Amokrane Mourad today to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and trade between the two countries.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, the two officials commended the long-standing cooperation between Uganda and Algeria. Oryem welcomed Uganda’s growing exports to Algeria, which include 400 tons of powdered milk already supplied, along with coffee from four Ugandan companies.
The ambassador thanked Uganda for its participation in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algeria, where Ugandan products and innovations were showcased.
The meeting also highlighted a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations’ finance ministers. The agreement will support the expansion of Katakwi Hospital, a project scheduled to begin in four months. The officials also discussed opportunities for Algerian scholarships for Ugandan students.
Both Oryem and Mourad reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of their people.
