KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odongo, held a bilateral meeting with Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, to discuss the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting took place as the two officials were involved in ongoing NAM-related activities, which Uganda is currently chairing.
“India has made a huge impact within the Non-Aligned Movement, and I greatly appreciate your presence here, which makes this meeting as important as it should be,” Odongo said.
Odongo specifically commended India’s strong leadership within NAM and its voice on global issues, including Palestine.
Singh, in return, emphasized the central importance of Africa to India’s foreign relations. He welcomed deeper bilateral cooperation, naming key areas such as information technology, agriculture, and trade.
Odongo also expressed gratitude for India’s educational support, noting that numerous Ugandans have studied there with funding from the Indian government.
The Ugandan Minister concluded the meeting by thanking Singh for his guidance on the multilateral body’s proceedings.
“We believe this is only a mid-term product, and we should aim to have a complete outcome as we head into the 20th NAM Summit,” Odongo said.
