KAMPALA – Singer Ronald Mayinja has come under public criticism for releasing a song in which he asks President Museveni to leave power.
This comes hardly a year after Mayinja released “Akalulu Kako Mzee, which became the 2021 campaign theme song for the NRM presidential candidate in which he asked the public to vote for President Museveni.
In the new song dubbed ‘Abantu Baganye’, Mayinja now claims that he has been traversing the country to preach the Museveni gospel but he has been met with resistance and hatred.
“I used to be a good supporter, and have been travelling around to preach your message but the people have refused, to be certain they have refused they also hated me for it. I ask you mzee to find ways to leaving power because they have said they want another leader,” he sang.
But several Ugandans have hit back at Mayinja, accusing him of lacking principles and acting to attract NRM attention.
Duncan Abigaba from Government Citizen Interaction Centre tweeted: “When you follow your stomach instead of the brain. He probably can’t afford fuel for the V8 they gave him because of the fuel price hike. Once they give him some fuel, he’ll return with Mbisobola song. A fool dies a million times.”
Robert Onyango tweeted: “Ronald Mayinja is becoming a musical Chameleon, prior to the 2021 polls he released Ebintu Bizeemu. The song secured him a deal with NRM. He later praised M7 with Akalulu kako. After polls, Mayinja who wants to secure back his supporters resurfaces with another piercing song Binemye.”
Moses Baguma: In his latest song, Ronald Mayinja says that Museveni is no longer “sellable”. Mayinja seems aware of what awaits him.
