KAMPALA —The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) will brief the Ministry of Education about Primary Leaving Examination (PLE 2020) performance on Wednesday July 14 before releasing them on Friday July 16, 2021.

This website has learnt that UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo together with UNEB chairperson Prof Mary Okwakol meet the Education Minister Janet Museveni on Wednesday July 14 at State House, Nakasero.

UNEB had postponed the release of 2020 national examination results citing new coronavirus containment protocols announced by the President.

Jennifer Kalule Musumba, the board spokesperson, said the programme had been affected by the COVID19 restrictions.

Although schools are currently closed, she told reporters that UNEB needs to ensure that examination results are released earlier so as to fit in the available school calender.

According to UNEB, a total of 749,811 candidates are registered to sit for PLE.

Odongo revealed over 68% of the candidates (513,091) are products of the Universal Primary Education program.

By gender, girls are the majority at 53% (395,855) while 353,956 (47%) are boys.

Out of these, 58 are inmates who sat for their exams from Luzira Maxim State Peneteniary.

Dispite the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions, the total number of the candidates were above the 2019 figure of 695,468 with a range of over 10,000 candidates.
