Kampala – The Supreme Court is expected this morning to deliver its ruling on an application filed by former presidential candidate Robert Kasibante seeking to withdraw his presidential election petition challenging the victory of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Kasibante, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and lawyers representing all parties in the case have already arrived at court. The panel of Justices assigned to hear the matter is also present and is expected to take their seats shortly.
In a notice issued on February 23, 2026, under the hand and seal of the Registrar, the Court directed all respondents and their legal representatives to appear for the ruling. The notice cautioned that should any party fail to attend—either in person or through authorised counsel—the decision may still be delivered in their absence.
Kasibante, who finished sixth in the recently concluded presidential election, had petitioned the Supreme Court seeking to overturn Museveni’s victory for the 2026–2031 term. In his petition, he alleged that the election was marred by irregularities, including the involvement of the military in the electoral process, failure of biometric voter verification machines, vote rigging, and other inconsistencies.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, he later filed an application seeking to withdraw the petition. The Court’s ruling today will determine whether the withdrawal is allowed and bring the matter to a close.
