The man who killed an Indian national has been identified as a police officer.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said Constable Ivan Wabwire whose force number is 67029 allegedly shot and killed Uttam Bhandari, who was the Director of TFS Financial Services.
Onyango said a case of murder by shooting has since been opened at CPS vide CRB 1000/2023 and a team of police officers led by the KMP commander, Senior Commissioner of Police, Steven Tanui, visited the scene.
So, far police team has recorded statements from six witnesses and workers of TFS Financial Services. Onyango said police have established that Wabwire used an AK47.
“The police officer was identified as a one No. PC 67029 Wabwire Ivan. The policeman had acquired a loan with TFS financial services in 2020 and had paid for only 3 months and disappeared later on,” SSP Onyango said.
Police have said that the suspect had come to the victim to get a quotation to take to an identified bank so that the bank buys off the loan as alleged. Onyango confirmed the witnesses’ narrative that the shooter donned police attire and left on a motorcycle.
“After the shooting, he jumped on a Boda and rushed to CPS Kampala where he abandoned the killer gun. Efforts are being made to have him arrested for further inquiries,” SSP Onyango said.
