KAMPALA — President Yoweri spokesman Don Wanyama will take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the New Vision Printing and Publishing Company —Vision Group — when Robert Kabushenga ends his three month ‘resignation’ window, according to available information.

Media reports indicate that President Museveni sanctioned Mr. Wanyama’s appointment over other candidates including New Vision Chief Editor Barbra Kaija, Next Radio general manager Marcus Kwikiriza, Red Pepper’s Rugyendo Arinaitwe, former Deputy General of the External Security Organisation(ESO) Emmanuel Ewaku Allio many others.

On weekend, this website reported that President Museveni believes in Mr. Wanyama over his aggressiveness in defending government and how he handled Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine in the face of international criticism.

Other sources said Mr. Wanyama emerged a potential candidate to take the job and he is awaiting the Board’s endorsement and announcement.

Commenting about the development, Mr Wanyama said: “the duty and prerogative of announcing CEO is that of the board. Until they do so, everything else is simply speculation.”

On Tuesday, prominent human rights lawyer, Nicholas Opiyo, claimed that Mr. Wanyama is appointment at New Vision is an extension of President Museveni’s social media.

“If, as I’ve read online, Don Wanyama is succeeding Robert Kabushenga at Vision as its CEO, we first must congratulate him. But then promptly ask whether he’s being appointed to spite Mr. Kabuhenga. Social media handler for President Museveni yes. CEO? The jury’s out on this one.

However, former head of journalism department at Makerere, Dr. William Tayeebwa said Mr. Wanyama is a professional journalist with experience running a newspaper.
