Kampala- The Women’s Situation Room (WSR) Uganda has announced the closure of its Physical Situation Rooms that were established to monitor, prevent, and respond to election-related tensions across the country.
In a statement issued over the weekend WSR Uganda commended citizens, electoral authorities, security institutions, political actors, youth, civil society organisations, and the media for the cooperation exhibited throughout the electoral period.

The Physical Situation Rooms, hosted in Kampala, Arua, Jinja, and Hoima, were set up as preventive and supportive mechanisms to promote calm, identify early warning signs, and contribute to a peaceful electoral environment. According to WSR Uganda, a total of 1,759 calls were received, reporting incidents related to electoral violence and threats, voter intimidation and harassment, technical and logistical challenges, family-based gender-related electoral violence, and other human rights concerns.
WSR Uganda acknowledged that electoral processes often generate tension, fear, and frustration, but emphasized that such challenges must not be addressed through violence, intimidation, or repression. The organisation called upon all citizens, political actors, security institutions, and state authorities to uphold peace, exercise restraint, reject hate speech, and respect human life in the post-election period.
The organisation further urged that any unresolved electoral concerns be pursued through lawful, transparent, and peaceful mechanisms.
In its statement, WSR Uganda specifically called for continued commitment to peace and non-violence by political actors and their supporters, transparent and timely communication from relevant institutions to build public confidence, professional and impartial conduct by security agencies, and responsible media reporting that promotes calm, accuracy, and national cohesion.
Although the Physical Situation Rooms have transitioned out of operation, WSR Uganda reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to peaceful electoral processes. The organisation noted that its toll-free hotline, 0800 333 433, will remain operational to receive election-related reports for the remainder of the polling period for various elective positions.
WSR Uganda reiterated its appeal for unity and peaceful coexistence as the country moves forward in the post-election period.
