5 Dead, 6 Injured in Nakasongola Highway Head-on Crash

A devastating head-on collision on the Kampala-Gulu highway in Kyalweza village, Nakasongola, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 8:30 PM, involving a Toyota Hiace van and a Nissan Diesel, resulted in five confirmed deaths and six injuries as police actively investigate the cause.

NAKASONGOLA, Uganda — Five people died and six others were injured Sunday, June 8, 2025, in a head-on collision on the Kampala-Gulu highway, according to police.

The fatal accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in Kyalweza village, Wabinyonyi sub-county, Nakasongola district.

Police spokesperson for the Savannah region, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Twiineamazima, stated that a Toyota Hiace van, registration number UA 415AV, traveling from Kampala at high speed, veered out of its lane and collided with a Nissan Diesel vehicle, registration number UBL 615T, which was coming from Gulu. Both vehicles were white. The drivers of both vehicles are currently unknown.

Five individuals died instantly, and six others sustained injuries.

Police were notified and responded to the scene, registering a case of fatal accident. Statements were recorded from eyewitnesses. The injured were transported to Nakasongola Health Center IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Center IV for post-mortem examinations. Both vehicles were towed to the Katuugo park yard for inspection.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
