KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandans are commending the Electoral Commission (EC) for adding weekend sessions to the ongoing national voter register verification exercise, which concludes Wednesday, May 15. Many residents say the weekend option has made it easier for working individuals to participate in the crucial process without interrupting their weekday schedules.
Hamidu Mulwana, a resident of Nankulabye, expressed his appreciation for the weekend arrangement. “At first, I found it hard to verify my particulars in the register because I leave home very early and return late. But when the EC extended the exercise to weekends, it helped a lot. I don’t work on Sundays, so I used one of them to verify my details,” Mulwana said.

He also praised the conduct of EC officials and volunteers for assisting voters, particularly those with literacy challenges. “The young men and women conducting this process are doing a great job. They help everyone. In Nankulabye, many people can’t read well, but the officials are patient and assist them to verify smoothly,” he added.
The Electoral Commission launched the nationwide voter verification exercise to update the national voters’ register in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
The commission continues to urge all registered voters to visit their designated polling stations to check and confirm their details before the May 15 deadline. The verification process is open daily, including weekends, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The inclusion of weekend sessions appears to have significantly increased voter participation and public confidence in the verification process.
