KAMPALA, Uganda — Police in Uganda have arrested three individuals for alleged forgery and impersonation connected to recent police recruitment exercises, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma identified two suspects apprehended at the Yumbe Police Recruitment Centre as Charles Bakole and Lazy Hillary, also known as Vuruku Hillary Sorry. A third suspect, Kenneth Tumusiime, was arrested during training prior to the pass-out ceremony for probationer police constables (PPCs).

According to police, Bakole allegedly altered his academic results, upgrading his grades from a D to a B to meet recruitment qualifications.

Vuruku Hillary Sorry is accused of manipulating records from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to assume a new identity, changing his name from Lazy Hillary.

“We nabbed two fellows. They are being investigated and will go through court,” ACP Kituuma said.

In a separate incident, Kenneth Tumusiime allegedly impersonated his brother, Moses Tumusiime, who missed the recruitment interview. Kenneth reportedly swore an affidavit to assume his brother’s identity and proceeded through the recruitment process undetected until recently. He is currently detained at Masindi Police Station and faces charges of forgery and impersonation.

“Anyone who uses fraudulent means will eventually be discovered and will be escorted through courts of law,” warned ACP Kituuma.

He urged all institutions to conduct thorough background checks on applicants, cautioning that individuals who gain employment through deception could pose significant threats to the integrity of the force.
