NAGALAMA, Uganda — Police in Nagalama recovered three heads of suspected stolen cattle early Thursday after a high-speed chase that ended at Nakasajja Trading Centre.
The incident began around 3:00 AM when officers from Nagalama Police Station on routine patrol in Kalagi Trading Centre along Gayaza Road noticed a white Toyota Prado TX, registration number UAZ 797G, moving suspiciously. When officers signaled the vehicle to stop, it sped away, leading to a pursuit.
Police intercepted the Prado at Nakasajja Trading Centre. Two occupants attempted to flee on foot, and two others were seriously injured during the operation and died upon arrival at a hospital, according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Owoyesigyire said the officers’ swift action resulted in the recovery of three heads of cattle hidden in the vehicle.
“The officers acted swiftly and professionally. Their vigilance led to the successful recovery of three heads of cattle, which we believe had been stolen,” Owoyesigyire said. “This is part of an ongoing effort to curb the rising cases of cattle theft in the region.”
The identities of the deceased suspects were not immediately known, and their bodies were taken to the City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Authorities are working to determine the origin of the cattle and to locate the suspects who fled.
“We commend the officers of Nagalama Police Station for their commitment to public safety,” Owoyesigyire added. “The vehicle used in the incident is suspected to have been transporting stolen cattle to market.”
