
KAMPALA – Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance (MoICT&NG), Dr. Aminah Zawedde, has called on government IT professionals to become a highly skilled and adaptable workforce to effectively drive Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. Her address was delivered today during a key strategic engagement at the Innovation Hub Uganda, which brought together IT officers from various Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Local Governments.
The MoICT&NG organized the meeting to foster stronger coordination and collaboration across the government’s ICT functions. Discussions during the session centered on crucial topics, including updates on the evolving roles of IT professionals within government, aligning ongoing and future IT projects with Uganda’s national development priorities, and promoting the sharing of effective IT practices. Participants also reviewed the progress of implementing digital platforms and initiated planning for broader digital transformation strategies within their respective MDAs.
Dr. Zawedde emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing strategic direction in ICT and national guidance, ultimately aiming for a streamlined and efficient delivery of digital services to the Ugandan populace. She encouraged the assembled IT officers to dedicate themselves to continuous professional development and to deepen their understanding of their institutions’ operations to effectively champion digital change.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that cultivating a globally competitive IT workforce – characterized by agility, professional certifications, and leadership capabilities – is paramount for Uganda to fully realize the benefits of a digital future. This engagement underscores the ministry’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a cohesive and highly skilled government IT sector, which is considered vital for the nation’s overall progress in the digital era.
