KAMPALA, Uganda — Bank of Africa-Uganda (BOAUG) on Thursday launched its “Appsolutely Eassy” campaign, introducing a fully remote account opening experience via the BOA Wallet App. This initiative aims to put financial services directly into the hands of Ugandans without the need to visit a physical branch.
The campaign specifically targets youth, first-time banking customers and existing account holders. It leverages Uganda’s increasing smartphone adoption and mobile-first lifestyle, which is a significant trend in the region. According to the GSMA Mobile Economy Sub-Saharan Africa 2024 report, smartphone usage in Uganda is projected to surpass 80% by 2025, a growth driven by increased internet access and the availability of more affordable devices.
“With the BOA Wallet, we are removing traditional barriers to financial inclusion,” said Arthur Isiko, managing director of Bank of Africa-Uganda. “Now, anyone can open a fully functional bank account in minutes, right from their mobile phone — no paperwork, no queues, no delays. This innovation is part of our broader strategy to make banking truly accessible to everyone, especially the younger, digitally driven generation.”
While instant account opening is a primary feature and major highlight of the campaign, the BOA Wallet also offers a complete suite of digital services designed to empower customers to manage their finances effortlessly. These services include BOA Pay, which provides a simple and secure method for making digital payments to merchants and service providers. Additionally, the app facilitates Bill Payments, offering convenient options for utilities, airtime and other essential services. Customers can also benefit from Interest-Earning Savings, allowing them to save directly through the app and earn attractive interest rates on their deposits.
The BOA Wallet is designed for smart, security-conscious users. It features real-time transaction alerts, a sleek and intuitive interface, and provides users with full access to their funds anytime, anywhere. Through innovations like the BOA Wallet, Bank of Africa states it is making financial empowerment truly “Appsolutely Eassy” for Ugandans, aiming to drive deposits, expand access and deliver a modern banking experience that fits today’s lifestyle.
