Central Division, Mukono– The Mukono District Local Government – Education Department on Friday convened a high-level strategic meeting with heads of government and private schools in preparation for the second term of the 2025 academic year.

The meeting, held at Bishop Senior School in Mukono Municipality, was organized by the District Education Department and attracted participation from head teachers of both primary and secondary schools. Also in attendance were School Inspectors from across the district and Coordinating Center Tutors (CCTs) representing various sub-counties.
Delivering the keynote address, District Education Officer (DEO) Mr. Rashid Kikomeko commended school leaders for their steadfast commitment to national service. He highlighted recent successes, including triumphs in national competitions held in Kabale, and praised the spirit of unity and solidarity exhibited by educators during challenging times.
Mr. Kikomeko urged school administrators to refrain from engaging in partisan politics, reminding them of their constitutional mandate as impartial public servants dedicated to serving all Ugandans without discrimination.
Mr. Charles Mbidde Kazibwe, Vice President of Private School Owners in Mukono, advocated for stronger collaboration between private and government-aided schools. He cautioned against persistent increases in school fees—particularly for PLE candidates—warning that such practices could impose heavy burdens on parents and limit access to education.
Mr. Mukasa Sabiiti, Headteacher of Nama UMEA and district chairperson of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), addressed concerns regarding rumored demonstrations over salary increments. He clarified that UNATU is not associated with these efforts and reaffirmed the union’s confidence in ongoing government engagements aimed at improving teacher welfare.
On educational quality and curriculum implementation, Mr. Hyuha M. Mugala, Head of the CCTs, encouraged school heads to put their development plans into action.
He emphasized the need for regular institutional performance reviews, leveraging model schools as learning benchmarks, and strengthening inter-school partnerships for holistic growth. He also urged educators to remain mission-driven, focusing on learner outcomes rather than solely on financial concerns.
The meeting was officially graced by Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, LC V Chairperson of Mukono District Local Government and Secretary for Education and Sports. In his remarks, Dr. Bakaluba commended the dedication of the head teachers and underscored their vital role in shaping Uganda’s future generations.
He urged schools to commence preparations for Mock Examinations and the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). He also encouraged teachers to remain resilient and solution-oriented, stating that while every school is important, it is the dedication, professionalism, and innovation of educators that drive meaningful transformation in the education sector.
