KIKUUBE DISTRICT, Uganda — CNOOC Uganda Limited, in partnership with the Chinese Medical Team, recently conducted a medical camp at Buhuka Health Centre III under the theme “Health and Wellness for a Better Future.” The initiative aimed to improve community health and well-being in the company’s host communities.

The 2025 medical camp focused on increasing access to and providing free medical services to local residents. It also sought to raise awareness about disease prevention and support early detection and intervention for critical health conditions.

More than 25 medical doctors and specialists participated in the camp, emphasizing early screening and treatment of congenital heart diseases. Various infectious diseases, including malaria, typhoid, syphilis, hepatitis B and HIV, were treated, along with non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and ulcers. Maternal and child health services were also a key focus. Health education messages and preventive guidelines for diseases like Mpox, malaria and cholera were continuously broadcast and distributed.

CNOOC Uganda Limited and the Chinese Medical Team donated medicine and medical equipment to Buhuka Health Centre III. The donation included hospital beds, diagnostic equipment for eyes and ears, bedside lockers, weighing scales, blood pressure machines, fetoscopes, an instrument cupboard, an instrument set for IUCD, an examination torch, diagnostic equipment for clinical officers and patient screens. This is part of CNOOC Uganda Limited’s ongoing commitment to public health and community wellness through sustained medical outreach programs.

Residents expressed gratitude for the medical camp. Vanessa, a mother from Buhuka, said, “This camp came at the right time. I brought my child with a skin issue and we were seen by a specialist at no cost. We thank CNOOC for bringing services closer to us.” Kaahwa, another beneficiary, noted, “Last year, I was treated for ulcers, this time it’s my wife who needed help. These medical camps save us a lot of money and give us hope.” Gerald, a local health volunteer, added that the health education was “so helpful.”

Hu Weijie, Vice President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, stated, “We are proud to host this medical camp, which reflects our ongoing commitment to the well-being of Ugandan communities and the strengthening of China-Uganda relations.”

Hon. Opio Vincent Alpher, Vice Chairperson LCV of Kikuube District, who represented LCV Chairman Peter Banura, commended CNOOC Uganda Limited for its consistent support. “This medical camp has directly impacted lives and strengthened the bond between our two nations,” Alpher said.

Fan Xuecheng, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, also attended the event and reiterated China’s continued support for Uganda’s development. “China remains committed to working with Uganda to improve public health and livelihoods through collaborative programs under the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC Nine Programs,” he said.

Beyond healthcare, CNOOC Uganda Limited continues to invest in community programs, including international scholarships, the CNOOC-Bunyoro Kitara Amasaza Football Tournament, academic excellence awards, relief aid and vocational training initiatives for youth. These efforts reflect the company’s broader commitment to Uganda’s socio-economic development.
