KCCA FC has officially confirmed the return of experienced defender Herbert Achayi, who re-joins the club on a two-year deal. Achayi returns to Lugogo following the expiry of his contract with Express FC, marking a homecoming to the club where he began his football journey.
A product of the KCCA FC Soccer Academy, Achayi was promoted to the senior team in 2017 and spent seven years at the club before departing at the end of the 2022/23 season. Now, just a year later, the versatile defender is back in yellow, ready to bolster the Kasasiro Boys’ backline ahead of the new season.
During his most recent spell at Express FC in the 2024/25 campaign, Achayi featured in 22 league matches, accumulating 1,980 minutes — averaging a full 90 minutes per game. His consistency and endurance made him one of the standout defenders in the league.
Speaking to the club’s official website after signing, a visibly excited Achayi shared his emotions about the move:
“It feels incredible to be back home. This club holds a special place in my heart, and I am happy to have the opportunity to represent KCCA FC once again. I am ready to give my all, work hard, and go again one more time,” said Achayi.
Known for his versatility across the backline, Achayi’s return is expected to provide depth and experience to a squad with ambitions of reclaiming domestic dominance.
He becomes KCCA FC’s third signing in the ongoing transfer window, following the arrivals of Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Lazaro Muhindo.
Achayi is currently part of the Uganda Cranes squad preparing for the upcoming CHAN 2024 tournament, scheduled for August 2025.
