Uganda’s government communication officers are now better equipped with digital and crisis management skills after a week-long training by the Ministry of ICT and MultiChoice Uganda.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Over 200 Ugandan government communication officers have completed a comprehensive training program in strategic communications and digital skills, a joint initiative by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance (MoICT & NG) and MultiChoice Uganda.

The week-long capacity-building program, held in two cohorts from July 7-8 and July 9-10, 2025, culminated in a graduation ceremony at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa. Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, officiated the event.

The training focused on essential areas including issues and crisis management, localization of government communications, visual media, and storytelling. Participants engaged with real-life case studies and group exercises, designed to equip them with the necessary tools for public communications in a rapidly evolving digital media environment.

Dr. Zawedde emphasized the importance of public-private sector collaboration for national growth. “Through this training, we have laid a strong foundation for enhanced citizen engagement and national development,” she stated. “We are proud to be tapping into MultiChoice Uganda’s extensive expertise in broadcasting and digital content development.”

Hassan Saleh, Managing Director of MultiChoice Uganda, reiterated his company’s commitment to the partnership. “At MultiChoice Uganda, we believe that great storytelling is essential to progress,” Saleh said. “We are also honored to support the Ministry in enhancing the voice of government and building a stronger connection with the public.”

Hellen Kawesa, Assistant Director of Communications and Public Relations at the Parliament of Uganda, speaking on behalf of the participants, expressed gratitude for the training. “We learned the critical importance of crisis communication, localized communication and storytelling among others,” Kawesa noted. “We recognized the potential of using our phones to take pictures that communicate well.”

Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda, also thanked the Ministry for the collaboration, citing its role in advancing storytelling, skills development, and strengthening national institutions through effective communications training.
