KAMPALA, UGANDA — Glovo, a technology platform that connects customers, businesses and riders, celebrated its fifth anniversary in Uganda on Wednesday with the opening of a new office in Kampala.
The company stated the new office and its five-year milestone highlight Glovo’s ongoing commitment to digitizing local businesses, creating jobs and advancing sustainable delivery in the country.
Since its launch in 2020, Glovo has invested 33 billion Ugandan shillings in the country, generating 6,000 jobs. These roles include direct staff and indirect positions at partner restaurants, stores and for riders. The platform has collaborated with over 3,000 businesses, 95% of which are small to medium-sized Ugandan enterprises, helping them to digitize and expand their reach. This has generated more than 143 billion shillings in direct economic value for these partners.

Dr. Cosmas Mwikirize, Superintendent of Industrial Value Chains Development at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, praised the company’s efforts.
“Glovo’s work in Uganda over the past five years shows how the platform economy can drive innovation, create jobs, and support our transition to greener transport solutions,” Mwikirize said.
Glovo Uganda Country Manager Ivy Maingi said the new office marks the “next growth chapter” for the company, with a focus on scaling operations, providing digital tools for partners and expanding electric vehicle adoption.

Glovo has the highest share of non-combustion or electric vehicle deliveries in its global network, with 37% of all Ugandan orders in 2024 delivered by electric vehicles. The company plans to increase this to 70% of its rider fleet through a partnership with Zembo, a Ugandan electric mobility company, that offers subsidies for electric motorbikes. Electric motorbikes produce 21% less carbon dioxide than gas-powered vehicles and can save riders an average of 84,500 shillings per month in fuel costs.
The company currently operates in Kampala, Mukono and Entebbe, working with 900 businesses and 1,000 riders. The business aims to double in size within the next two years.
The new office is located on the first floor of AHA Towers on 7 Lourdel Road.
