President Paul Kagame on Thursday, September 15 called King Charles III, via telephone, to convey his condolences to the British royal family following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed on last week.
Kagame’s phone call comes at a time world leaders have continued to pour in their tributes since September 8, when it was announced that the longest-reigning British monarch had died “peacefully” at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

In Rwanda, the Head of State has since ordered that the national flag and that of the East African Community be flown to half-mast in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at 96.
This will be observed until the conclusion of state funeral service next week on Monday.
“I had the opportunity to express through a phone conversation, my sincere condolences to His Majesty King Charles III for the passing of his mother, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” Kagame said in a tweet.

He added, “Rwanda looks forward to working together with King Charles III to move the Commonwealth agenda forward in service of all our citizens.”
Kagame assumed the chairmanship of the Commonwealth in June this year, when Rwanda hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
