
ACCRA, Ghana — The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has joined the global Catholic community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, praising his commitment to social justice, peace, and human dignity.
In a statement, SECAM President Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo said Pope Francis’ legacy would continue to inspire Africans to build a more inclusive and loving community.
“Pope Francis has been a profound source of inspiration, particularly for us in Africa,” Cardinal Ambongo said. “His visits to our continent brought hope and love to countless people, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to being a family.”
The cardinal highlighted Pope Francis’ advocacy for the environment, dialogue, and synodality, saying these values had inspired Africans to address pressing community issues.
As the Catholic Church enters a period of mourning, SECAM has invited the faithful across Africa and Madagascar to join in prayerful remembrance, giving thanks for Pope Francis’ life and teachings.
“Pope Francis’ enduring message will guide us as we strive to build a more just and loving world,” Cardinal Ambongo said.
SECAM has extended heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community, praising Pope Francis’ unwavering commitment to human dignity and social justice.
