Britam has renewed its partnership with the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon for a third consecutive year, reinforcing a shared commitment to health, resilience, and community transformation.
The insurance and financial services leader announced a sponsorship package worth UGX 100 million, comprising both cash and in-kind contributions.
The package includes cash support, travel insurance for international runners, and full sponsorship of the Britam Recovery Zone – a dedicated post-race space equipped with professional sports massage therapists and ice baths to help athletes recover.
The recovery zone reflects Britam’s ethos of “preparing for a stronger tomorrow,” mirroring how recovery is vital for a runner’s long-term performance.
Speaking at the launch, Britam Uganda Team Lead (CEO) Allan Mafabi said: “My favourite topic is the 5 S’s of sports: Spirit, Stamina, Skill, Strength, and Speed. The Rwenzori Marathon embodies all of these. My entire team wants to come to Kasese – that means you’ve created something truly special, and we are proud to be long-term partners.”
Britam’s commitment goes beyond race day. The company is spearheading an ambitious campaign to plant 60 million trees, working with partners like the marathon to promote climate action and environmental restoration – with ongoing projects already underway in Kasese.
Amos Wekesa, the founder and proprietor of the Rwenzori Marathon, expressed his gratitude for Britam’s continued support, especially in challenging times. “We are thankful to Britam for their unwavering support. The marathon is growing every year, and this year, we are expecting athletes from over 35 countries, including places as far as Uruguay and Cameroon,” Wekesa said.
The 2025 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon is set for August 23 in Kasese, Uganda, drawing runners from across the country and more than 40 other nations.
As one of the few marathons worldwide that crosses the equator and winds through a UNESCO biosphere reserve, it continues to champion health, talent development, tourism, and climate resilience.
