Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo showcases Uganda’s Alternative Dispute Resolution expertise in Doha

DOHA – The Chief Justice of Uganda, Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, is currently in Doha, Qatar, attending the 5th Standing International Forum for Commercial Courts (SiFoCC) meeting. The two-day conference, which runs from April 20 to 21, brings together commercial courts from around the world to share best practices in commercial dispute resolution.

On the first day of the forum, the Chief Justice presented the Ugandan experience on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in resolving disputes and highlighted the resolutions of the Africa Chief Justices ADR Summit held recently in Kampala. He also participated in discussions on emerging issues, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in dispute resolution.

The Chief Justice was accompanied by a delegation that included Chief Justice Emeritus, Justice Bart Katureebe Magunda, Technical Advisor to the Judiciary, Prof. Andrew Khaukha, and Personal Assistant to the Chief Justice, HW Lochomin Peter Fred.

SiFoCC, established in 2017, aims to promote the rule of law, support developing countries in resolving commercial disputes, and strengthen relationships between business and law worldwide.
