Court set to sentence Mathew Kirabo

Mukono High Court Deputy Registrar has issued a production warrant to prisons Authority requiring them to bring Mathew Kirabo in court for sentencing.

A warrant issued on 13th November 2023, by Assistant Registrar Mubiru Nasif addressed to Superintendent of Prisons Upper Prisons , Kirabo will be produced in court on 21st before Justice Henry Kaweesa at 10.00 o’clock.

In September this year , Uganda Police working with Interpol arrested Dr. Mathew Kirabo from Kenya where he was in hiding by the time Mukono High court convicted of murdering his lover Mathew Kirabo.

In May 2022, Kirabo was convicted by Justice Henry Kaweesa in absentia because he jumped court bail and escaped out of the country.

The trial continued and later on after evaluating the evidence on record, court made a finding that the Prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that on July 10th 2015, Kirabo murdered now late Desire Mirembe (his girlfriend) and Makerere University student.

Background

Court heard it that Mathew Killed Kirabo who was a student by then after developing a misunderstanding with her , the body was dumped in a sugar cane plantation in Lugazi Buikwe District.

Kirabo appeared first in High court on October 6th 2021 charged with murder but pleaded not guilty.

He later applied for bail which was never objected to by the State Prosecution , it was granted and later on November 3rd 2021, he jumped court bail.

Court ordered all his sureties to pay 150 million shillings cash having failed to fulfill their responsibilities.
