KAMPALA– A group of Democratic Party Members who are not in agreement with Hon Nobert Mao’s leadership as the Party President, have threatened to take legal action against any body who will interfere with their constitution in the preparation for the forthcoming general elections.

This has come a few days after , Hon. Gerald Siranda, the Party secretary General has announced that they have decided to allow six members to carry the party flag in the Parliamentary election without paying any penny.
“We need to sensitize members on how they can emerge victor in the forthcoming general elections. We shall issue our the party card to any member with qualifications, even if it means carrying forms to their homes we shall do it.” Remarked Siranda during last week’s press briefing.
One of the members, Benedicto Kiwanuka Galiko has vowed to use all the available legal avenues to ensure that they liberate the party from leaders who want to lead Democratic Party basing on their personal beliefs without following the Party Constitution.
“We can’t seat back as a group of individuals with selfish interests are stearing our Party back wards. We have filed a number of petitions challenging their leadership, we shall not give up until when the situation returns to normal.” Remarked Galiko
He also revealed that he has already filed an appeal , challenging the decision of High Court judge Simon Peter Kinobe who dismissed a case in which Galiko was challenging the legality of the members of DP’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Kiwanuka informed court that it was illegal for Dr. Gerald Siranda (Secretary General), Mayambala Kiwanuka (national Chairman), Hon. Nobert Mao (President General) and Herbert Rutagwera to continue (organizing Secretary) , to continue holding Party offices after Gulu High court ruling which declared that they were not legally elected.
He had asked Court to commit them to Civil prison for contempt or disobedience of Court orders, be fined a sum of 300,000,000 UGX ( Three hundred Uganda Shillings) and 100,000,000 (one hundred million shillings) for coming contempt of Court.
“I therefore find that the respondents cannot be held in contempt of court as there was no court that was violated by the respondents. I find this application misconceived , an intentional abuse of Court process and vexatious with an intention to harass and annoy the respondents.” Ruled High Court judge, Simon Peter Kinobe
Court went further and condemned Galiko to pay costs to the respondents.
